This video is ranking #1 for the keyword “YouTube Video Description Template”

Now I can show many more examples of videos I am ranking for and generating traffic from, however this post would be way too long and I would rather you just get the information you want from this post. But, you can see from the image above I know how to rank video’s, so let’s dive into these youtube video ranking tips.

These simple yet effective YouTube video ranking tips Improved my search results!

Find “Video Keywords”

Like anything in SEO, the YouTube SEO process starts with effective keyword research. Without this you might as well be shooting in the dark with no headlight.

Your goal is to find keywords that have YouTube results on the first page of Google and that have a good volume of search results (anything over 100 in my opinion is good enough) If you shoot 100 videos and they all rank first page with 100 search results a month, that’s a good number of people exposed to your video’s each and every month. Also the longer the search term the better. These are called Long-tail Keywords. This will help narrow down your specific target audience.

In general, Google tends to use video results for these types of keywords:

  • How-to keywords (“how to rank on Google”)
  • Reviews (“Herbal Life review”)
  • Tutorials (“Setting up WordPress websites”)
  • Anything fitness or sports related (“Indoor workouts”)
  • Funny videos (“Cute animals”)

Why is this important?

Well, if you only optimize your video’s around a keywords that don’t have any video results in Google.

You will ONLY get traffic from people searching on YouTube.

But if you optimize for Video Keywords, you’ll also get targeted traffic to your video directly from Google’s first page. So its kinda like a double wammy effect! Cool huh? 🙂

How To Find Keywords:

The easiest way is to head straight to Google and type in the search box, keywords related to your niche. Then see if any of the terms you searched for reveal YouTube Video Results.

Once you have found a keyword, you will need two tools to help you. The first tool to expand on your keyword/s to find those long-tail keywords I talked about and the second tool to find out how much search volume these terms are getting.

KeywordShitter – Does exactly what it says in the title, shits keywords out for you.

Google’s Keyword Planner – This Free tool from Google is literally all you need to help you determine whether a keyword term is worth going after or not.

In the video tutorial below I will give you a demonstration on how I use both these tools.

Saying your Keyword in the “Video”

The biggest of these youtube ranking tips. A key factor to help you rank for your keyword. Also helps people understand what your video is about and lets them know they are on the right page.

Remember that your video only has second to live before your audience get distracted and go watch some stupid cat videos. So make sure you tell your audience what your video is about just after your introduction, by saying the keyword out load. For example. Hi my name is John Smith, and welcome to today’s video where I will teach you how to get drunk on just one pint of Stella. Lol 😀

Use Engaging Video Thumbnails

Believe it or not, I still see many not using this when creating videos on YouTube. The truth is you need a way to grab the viewers attention from the search results to get them to even watch your video I covered this in part 2 of this series. Go check it out now. How to create Custom YouTube Thumbnails.

Add Each Video You Upload to a Playlist

This is one many people either don’t know or just forget to do. But every thing you do with your video marketing should be with the idea of driving traffic and views to your videos. Period!

The best way to do this is create highly focused videos based on relevant keywords. You can check out “Video Ranking Club” for training on that one.

But keyword focused videos should be added to keyword focused “Playlists”. Why? Because playlists can rank in the search engines also! Pretty cool huh? 🙂

Check Your Audio Quality

Yes its important and goes without saying. When creating a video, keep in mind that while the video itself is important….. so is the audio.

There is nothing worse than watching a video that sounds like they are underwater or there are really bad echoes….lol

If you have a few bucks spare….. Investing in a decent mic can really help, although most smartphones these days work great!
