Mind Your Own Business: Take Care Of Yourself and Your Own Future!

mind your own businessMind your own business. It’s a term you’ve probably used and heard many times, but have you actually taken that advice when it comes to your own financial well being?
There are 3 people you end up working for as an employee of a company and your working efforts are generally as follows:

1. You work for the company. Employee’s make their business owner or the shareholders rich, not themselves. So your efforts and success actually help provide the owners success and retirement.

2. You work for the government. The government takes its share of your pay before you even see it. By working harder, you simply increase the amount of taxes you pay to the government. Most people work from January to May just for the government.

3. You work for the bank. After taxes, the next biggest expense is generally a mortgage and credit-card debt.

So you see the problem with simply working harder is that each of these three levels takes a greater share of your increased efforts.

You need to learn how to have your increased efforts benefit you and your family directly. Once you have decided to concentrate on investing in yourself and learn to mind your own business – focusing your efforts on acquiring assets instead of a bigger pay cheque will you begin to put more money in your pocket than that of the three entities i mentioned above.

“Work harder on yourself than you do on your job.” – Jim Rohn

Now what I’m not saying is that you must quit your job. In fact if its your only source of income that would be rather a stupid thing to do. The reality is that most people must keep their job and rely on their wages to fund their acquisition of assets. As their assets grow, then their wealth grows.

How do you set goals? How do you measure the extent of your success? When does someone know that they are rich, that they have wealth?

Like I stated in the video above I think Buckminster Fuller’s definition answers these questions very well.

“Wealth is a person’s ability to survive so many number of days forward, or if I stopped working today, how long could I survive?

and that’s why I believe you can not rely on just one source of income anymore, if you lost your job tomorrow how would you get by? How would you buy the things you need – like food, rent, gas and electricity? How much longer do you think the government can keep supporting people while they’re out of work?

With the way things are going I can’t see that last much longer! Then you have retirement to think about?

The fact is that if you are expecting a government pension, as your right because you paid in whatever over the years, then you are most likely going to be disappointed and you are going to be suffering.
Regardless of your perceived entitlement, you should perhaps act like a grown up and take steps to take care of yourself and take care of your own future.
